Two Rivers String Quartet
BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL
October 6, 2018, 7:30pm
Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown, WV
• Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) –– String Quartet No. 1 in F major
• Alexander Borodin (1883-1887) –– String Quartet No. 2
One of the Friends of Music’s most important assets is our resident small ensemble, the Two Rivers String Quartet. For this concert, these talented musicians bring us a program that contrasts the youthful exuberance of Beethoven’s bold first quartet with a Borodin quartet that is one of the most romantic chamber works ever written. Several of the melodies in this Borodin piece are well-known today as songs that were popularized in the 1953 musical Kismet, such as “And this is my Beloved.”

NONSENSE & SENSIBILITY
May 18, 2019 at 7:30pm
Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown, WV
• Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) –– Septet in E-flat major
• William Walton (1902-83) –– Façade; An Entertainment
Monica Reinagel and Gran Wilson, Narrators
The final program, conducted by our Music Director Jed Gaylin, Nonsense and Sensibility, showcases the dramatic talents of two extraordinary singers, Monica Reinagel and Gran Wilson. However, for this occasion, they will not sing; instead they will recite the sometimes seemingly daft (but actually very crafty) poetry of Dame Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), which was set to equally captivating music by William Walton. Paired with Walton is Beethoven’s intimate and velveteen Septet. Join us for this delightful musical celebration!
